PETER PACEY is a very proud Frederictonian and New Brunswicker. He is the oldest surviving Calithumpian and a founding member of this theatre troupe, which was established in 1979.  Pacey is also the originator of Fredericton Outdoor Summer Theatre in Officers’ Square, a mainstay of the  city’s summer tourist season for the past 25 years.

 

His professional career began in teaching, first at Fredericton High School where he taught English and pioneered Canadian Literature. Later, he taught teachers at the University of New Brunswick and St. Thomas University and  specialized in teaching English and Canadian Studies at STU.

 

Much of his life has been spent volunteering for various causes. He is a past president of Fredericton Heritage Trust and has been instrumental in fighting various heritage issues in the capital and beyond.  He has been a member of various committees focusing on the development of Fredericton’s  historic military compound into the Historic  Garrison District as a major tourism site and festival centre. His company now provides the signature interpretation and animation in this national historic site.

 

Also, he has been active in coaching at various levels and also training coaches through the National Coaching Certification Program. He coached  Rugby for over twenty years at high school,  university and Canada Games. He spent two years as the National Chair of the  Rugby Canada  Coaching Committee  between 2002-2004 and  oversaw Rugby’s transition to the competency based education & training model (CBET). He also  coached  hockey at the  minor level and at the varsity level at St. Thomas University.

 

He has designed, developed and delivered training programs as  a consultant in a variety of fields from customer service excellence to team building to tour guiding. He specializes in meeting facilitation and enjoys designing innovative and customized simulations, game based exercises and experiential learning. He loves a challenge and is only too willing to tackle new projects and aid clients in reaching their goals.

 

As a performer and director, he has been involved in over 70 shows with his own companies, and has appeared professionally at the National Arts Centre, Theatre New Brunswick and Neptune Theatre. He has appeared in a number of films, television shows and videos, most recently as Coach Maroni in Blowies which garnered big laughs at The Tidal Wave Film Festival 2004 in Halifax. This year  he guests with Lorne Michaels on CBC radio’s national “Chasing the Big Silly”.

 

 For the  past 4 years he produced and directed Big Hearts for the Homeless on Valentines Day at the Playhouse as benefit for the Fredericton Emergency Shelters.  In 1998 he was the producer and director of the Fredericton 150 Revue, which played to packed houses and rave reviews. His one-man show, Bull of the Woods, is still in popular demand for conventions, dinner theatre and in schools. 

 

Recently he has been specializing in “personations” of famous personalities and numbers  among his favourite personas – Lord Beaverbrook  and John  James Audubon. Presently he is on the national  board of  Interpretation Canada, the professional  association for heritage and nature interpreters in Canada and he  writes a  regular column in  their national  magazine
