Jonathan Blain

Explorer, Adventurer & Innovator in life and business

Jonathan Blain is an Explorer, Adventurer & Innovator in life and business. He was born in Sutton Coldfield near Birmingham in the UK 1963. From the earliest age, the spirit of adventure has been running through his veins. When it comes to taking on new challenges, both personal and business, Jonathan is at the front of the queue. To Jonathan, taking risks means living life to the full.

During his short career commission as a Royal Naval Officer, he became the youngest compliment officer in the fleet, survived a hurricane in mid Atlantic, and narrowly missed being sunk on HMS Coventry during the Falklands war. His adventures continued in the Fishery Protection Squadron  arresting fishing boats, responding to a fire on the Piper Alpha Oil Rig and taking part in search and rescue operations. His personal life has been action and adventure packed from school boy expeditions to surviving in mountainous seas, when his yacht started to break up in the North Atlantic, during the two handed trans-Atlantic race. Throughout his life he has been attracted to the water, the sea and boats. He designed a revolutionary yacht which he skippered in the Governors Cup Yacht Race, some 1,700 miles from Cape Town to the tiny and remote island of St Helena in the South Atlantic.

He has encountered Guerrilla’s in the Philippines, an ambush in Thailand and whales in Biscay and even visited Baghdad when Saddam was in power and the British were bombing. Ten exiting years with the Mobil Oil Corporation, then the world’s fourth largest company gave him a colorful insight into big corporate business in a whole variety of different roles. From the earliest age, entrepreneurship blossomed, but after leaving Mobil, Jonathan caught the entrepreneurship bug seriously. A massive variety of experiences in very different businesses have given Jonathan a unique insight into the challenges facing business leaders. He is frank about his amazing highs and lows; he has made and lost £27 million. He pulled off a £500K joint venture with a FTSE 100 company whilst working from a home office and floated 20% of his company for £5.4 million, a record IPO on the market.

Jonathan also knows a thing or to about tight corners and tough business situations, he has a storybook of personal experiences as long as your arm, which reflects considerable, hands on experience at the sharp end. With his life in fast forward, he has experienced a huge number of job roles from cleaner to salesman to Chairman and CEO of a publicly quoted company.

A realist with a positive outlook on life, Jonathan is an accomplished author with an International Best Seller and seven other books to his name on business / people and technology, with book sales of $3.8million. He is naturally inventive and creative and has emerged as an inspirational "Thought Leader" in the business world. Making sense of the exciting, chaotic and confusing business world and life in general has led him to a number of interesting discoveries and highly practical solutions.

As an explorer he is on a continual quest to make new discoveries and to go where others have rarely gone before. Jonathan is a devoted family man, determined to live life to the full, maintaining his strong values and wanting to make a positive contribution to the world.
