Greg’s insights are backed up by 20 years of leading and advising city agencies on how to align with the major opportunities of the current era. He has been a key leader in the redevelopment of London and has given practical advice to more 20 cities on their paths to success.

He says that to succeed cities and regions have to provide:

  • Connections to the world economy giving access to; jobs, markets for products and services, global knowledge and expertise, visitors, new populations, and mobile events. 

  • Openness to new populations and external investment. Willingness to make diversity, proximity and density key drivers of growth and change.

  • Quality of life that builds upon distinctive local identities, and good housing choices for people and families. Amenities and excellent
    services for resident populations and those who visit.

  •  Opportunities for people to acquire new skills, knowledge and abilities, and to access meaningful employment.

  • Leadership that communicates the future path for the city or region and accurately understands its assets, endowment, and opportunities, taking bold decisions and implementing strategies fully.

  • Innovation in institutions that can produce new policies, services, and tools, and can communicate well with multiple stakeholders and audiences.

  • Investment in the future, through financial innovation that enable cities to capture and use the value they create, and manage their assets in ways which attract external finance.
