He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree and a Canadian Securities Council Certificate. He has over 25 years of business experience as an owner and made his first public presentation at the age of 13.

Allen has co-owned, operated, and managed a Victorian Country Inn, Restaurant, Lounge, Take-Out, Bakery, Sam the Record Man, Construction Company, Training and Consulting Firm, and the Atlantic Speakers Bureau. Prior to starting his business ventures at the age of 24, he set up and managed an Auto Dealership when he was fresh out of University. He spent 7 months with that operation, the only time that he has ever not been self-employed.

Allen has experienced the ups and downs, failure and success of life and business. He has also written and published a Bar Tenders Recipes Manual based on Canadian Standard drink recipes.Allen has served on Boards of Trade, Kiwanis, Chambers of Commerce and various volunteer boards.  Allen currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Region Health Authority Region 2.
