For the first time in history, four generations of employees are working together. Obviously this new trend presents workplace challenges that up to this point were never considered. For companies to succeed, prosper and, in some cases, even to survive, management is now required to step up and understand as well as motivate each generation. With matures, baby boomers, Xers and millennials all working side by side, disputes can potentially arise through conflicts of values, vision, views and mindsets. Add to this the prospect of a shrinking workforce and it becomes increasingly clear that adaptive management is vital to a business’s longevity and success. Why is employee engagement so important?
Employee engagement has become one of the most popular buzzwords in business today. Why focus on engagement when employee retention has become such a big problem? The answer is simple—many companies are spending enormous amounts of resources retaining disengaged employees and the percentage of disengaged employees in the workplace is staggering. A disengaged employee only contributes 70 percent of the value of their compensation and an actively disengaged employee only contributes 50 percent.
