Dan Comiskey

Dan Comiskey played football in the Canadian Football League for 12 years, where he was coached by over 40 different professional coaches. All of these coaches were behaviour change specialists, and helped Dan become an expert in the fundamentals of habit change.

Dan recently retired from the Edmonton Eskimos, where he was a perennial all-star and a two time Grey Cup champion. Dan has co-written “The Truth About Success” and "Enduring Principles of Leadership". He is passionate about injury prevention and safety awareness.

Dan has suffered multiple concussions, a torn triceps, a torn calf, and a broken leg, all in the last 5 years. Dan’s step-brother died in an industrial accident, and his father in-law suffered a permanent brain injury in an industrial accident less than one year from retirement. Dan has a very personal perspective on the importance of workplace safety.

Off the field, Dan has spent his entire career honing his skills as a philanthropist and public speaker. He has been the honourable Chairperson for both the Canadian Cancer Society and the Kidney Foundation of Canada. He has spearheaded numerous Charity Drives for these organizations, as well as for the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada. For his work in the community, Dan has been honoured twice with the CFL’s Tom Pate nomination. This prestigious award is given for the unique combination of outstanding sportsmanship and dedication to the league and community.

Dan’s involvement as a leader on and off the field has established him as a sought after speaker. The parallels drawn between the corporate world and professional football have given Dan great insight into supervisor coaching and inspired leadership.

A note from Dan:

If you want to reduce your Workers Compensation claims, and dramatically increase the ability of your supervisors and managers to coach safety, you owe it to yourself to consider this opportunity.

Teaching employees to do tasks differently than they’ve done in the past can be difficult, frustrating work.

I teach supervisors and managers the skills and strategies to coach like professional coaches.

How do I do this?

I am a coaching and leadership expert.

I am a former professional football player, and I have been exposed to 12 years of coaching lessons from over 40 different professional coaches.

Everything I research and teach runs through this filter of personal coaching experiences.

I have coauthored “Enduring Principles of Leadership” and “The Truth About Success”.

I have been a professional keynote speaker for over 10 years.

Why do I do this?

Workplace death and injuries have affected me personally
on many levels.

I lost my brother to an industrial accident when he was just 41.

My father in law suffered a permanent brain injury at work just 2 years from retirement.

During my football career I suffered multiple concussions, a broken leg, a ruptured triceps and a torn calf, all within the last 3 years.

I will teach your supervisors about LEADERSHIP and the importance of learning effective coaching SKILLS and STRATEGIES.

First I will motivate them.

Then, over the next 12 months, I will teach them to supervise and manage employees like experienced professional coaches manage players.

My mission is to save a life each working day, and help prevent thousands of needless injuries.

I will accomplish my mission, but I need your help.

You’ve got to make the call

Sincerely,

Dan (the Safety Man) Comiskey
